| Lyle in Cube SectorNic Destefano | Every now and then a game comes along with a premise so unrealistic that you begin to wonder what the author does in his free time. Lyle in Cube Sector is one of those games.
The intro starts out with a man in a hood slowly approaching a house with an innocent kitty sleeping in front of it. Then suddenly, without warning, he snatches the kitty and runs! I literally laughed out loud over the sheer cleverness of the scene. Anyway, now it's your job to get your precious kitty back.
Lyle in Cube Sector plays out similar to a Mario game, minus the plumbing, the linear levels, and the bright colors. "Well, what's left?" you may ask. Well, there's exploration, catchy music, and a crap load of cubes to throw at enemies.
The core of the gameplay revolves around the cubes that seem to be everywhere and the things you can do with them. These range from using them as weapons, using them to reach high places, or using them as shields. There are various types of cubes, each having their own color and specific attribute. Some break when you throw them, some explode, some remain intact, and some respawn where you found them.
The game has quite a few puzzle elements, especially when it comes to reaching high places or moving blocks out of the way. The music is catchy, utilizing chip-tune instruments, and the overall atmosphere will appeal to anyone who likes dark, depressing things.
Overall, if you're a fan of platformers, I encourage you to give Lyle in Cube Sector a shot. |
