Kabloom

The Death of Games

Kabloom is a rather short, simple, but very beautiful art game in which you must help an elephant both plant and nurture various trees in an effort to bring life back to a series of floating islands.

The gameplay mechanics are fairly straightforward: use your trunk to suck in nearby seeds, use a ground-stomp to plant them, then use your trunk to collect and distribute water. You start out with one tree type, but gradually collect more as each new tree produces different seeds and fruit. Your goal is to collect every fruit type to end the game.

Theoretically, you can rush straight to the end of the game by planting roughly half a dozen trees, but that ruins the experience. As you end the game, the camera zooms out and rotates around the islands to show your work, and how impressive this final scene looks is entirely dependent on how much effort you put into reviving the islands.

Graphically, Kabloom is amazing. Everything is bright and coloful with plenty of shaders and effects. Low-end systems may have a tough time handling it, especially if you plant a lot of trees, but the experience is worth it.

Kabloom can take anywhere from 3 to 15 minutes to complete, but its beautiful graphics and open-ended gameplay are sure to leave a lasting impression.
